Alchermes babà


170ml milk

1 cube brewer's yeast

70g sugar

1 teaspoon salt

6 eggs

450g Manitoba flour 

150g butter

For the syrup

500 ml water

200g sugar (the original recipe calls for 500g, but Alchermes is already really sweet)

250ml Alchermes liqueur 

For the decoration

Spray cream Amarenas  

Amarena frosting

Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm milk and add the sugar, egg, salt and half of the flour.  Beat for 5 minutes and then add the softened butter.  Beat until you have a uniform mixture. Add the rest of the flour and then pour the mixture into a greased mold.  Cover with a cloth and leave to rise in a warm place with no drafts. After an hour and a half, bake at 200° for 30 minutes in a pre-heated oven. Leave to cool and turn out the dessert.  While it is cooling, prepare the syrup by boiling the water with the sugar and Alchermes liqueur...when the syrup has cooled, pour it over the babà should be completely soaked! I then decorated it with cream amarenas and amarena frosting!!!
